Research - My Audience Research and Audience Profile

Image
My Audience Psychographics, Demographics and Social Grade Psychographics : My audience is most likely to mixture of mainstreamers and suceeders. This is because these are the types of people who are most likely to watch my product. Suceeders who want to create content, and mainstreamers who are interested in Sunderland and what's going on. The creators may be influenced by what I make and may feel inspired to make their own documentary. A lot of creators like to be unique so learning about what content creation is like in their local area may help them to integrate their local identity into their creations. I think the realistic educational feel will appeal to mainstreamers because I think they will be interested to learn about content creation in the local area. Although content creation might not be popular amongst mainstreamers, they still watch and consume content so they could still be interested to see what life is like for their favourite creators. Mainstreamers are the mo...

Research - Media Theories

Image
What are the media theories? Media theory focuses on the effects that can come from utilizing new media, like new textual experiences and new ways of representing the world. One effect is the changing relationship between subjects and technologies, especially in relation to identity and community. Here is a video I watched about the evolution of media theories, I found it really interesting so make sure to give it a watch. Uses and Gratification Theory Jay G. Blumler and Elihu Katz devised the 'Uses and Gratification' theory in 1974. This approach states that we as consumers consciously choose what we want to see in media, depending on our needs and preferences. There are four given reasons for our choices: Information and education: the viewer chooses something to watch when they want information. This is usually the news or a documentary. Entertainment and escapism: arguably the most common reason for consuming media. The viewer wishes to be entertained. Escapism refers to th...

Research - Level 3 Technical Codes

Image
So, I have decided to research into technical codes, because it helps me grasp a better understanding of technical skill. By researching into different shot angles I am also developing my understanding of cinematography. Technical Codes CAMERA TERMINOLOGY Birds Eye View shot – a shot taken directly from above something, looking down on it (as though the camera was a bird flying over the scene). Canted Angle – A shot which is tilted to one side.  This is often used to create a feeling of disorientation, anxiety or chaos. Close up (and variations)  : close ups, including extreme, big and medium close ups, are used to draw the viewer closer and to involve them in what is happening; they also used to observe reactions and emotions, such is happiness, elation or tension.  These shots are often used to help the audience feel sympathy for that character or side with them.  Alternatively, a series of close ups / extreme close-ups often make the audience feel quite claustrop...

Research - The History of Sunderland

Image
The history of Sunderland Shipbuilding Town Over the centuries, Sunderland grew as a port, trading coal and salt and was once famously hailed as the "Largest Shipbuilding Town in the World". Ships were built on the Wear from at least 1346 onwards and by the mid-eighteenth century Sunderland was one of the chief shipbuilding towns in the country. Sunderland and the River Wear were one of the most productive shipbuilding regions in the United Kingdom for over two centuries. Sadly the last shipyard closed in 1988, symptomatic of the decline in British shipbuilding in the face of international competition and the need for ever larger ships. Throughout its history, Sunderland has had over 400 registered shipyards. These are some of the key yards in the development of the shipbuilding industry. J.L. Thompson and Sons was a shipyard on the River Wear, Sunderland, which produced ships from the mid-18th century until the 1980s. The world-famous Liberty Ship was among the designs to be...
